An Ark Built in Miami
April 30, 2013We’ve all heard the story of Noah’s Ark, but did you ever think there would be another ark? Originally, the ark was designed to hold animals of all types and the story says they were added to the ark “two-by-two”. This is a famous bible story with quite a bit of meaning behind it. Rodolfo Almira and some of his friends have decided to try to recreate this ark and are well on their way to a successful project. It’s a large structure found west of Hialeah and they hope to use it as a museum, shop and zoo.
This structure has been nicknamed the hidden ark and is a great attempt at the recreation of the famous ark found in the bible. Almira is an amateur architect and hopes to include animals, such as goats, chickens, pigs and other small animals in the zoo part of the ark. Even though, he won’t be adding the more colorful animals found in the Sunday school stories, such as zebras and giraffes, this can still become a very interesting place.
These men have started with a five-acre plot of land, which is surrounded by water on the west side of Miami. They converted the biblical measurements as best as they can. Cubits are used in the bible, which is the distance from the elbow to the tip of the longest finger or approximately 18 inches. The lowest deck is nearly completed, according to the plan. They have been using a large elephant to guard the ark, which was donated to them.
Even a strange project like this one needs to conform to the Florida building codes and they have to get all the right permits. Throughout the early stages, this group of men has already spent $1,500 on citations, which is just holding them back. Of course, the fact that they still need to raise another $1.5 million in funds is another roadblock currently in their way. Regardless, if they complete this project, it will become one of the most unique structures found in Miami and a new attraction for all to enjoy.
