Baby Boomers Want Amenities And An Active Lifestyle

June 16, 2011

By 2014, one quarter of the American population will pass the 55 mark, and experts are predicting an upswing in the overall real estate market as this huge sector moves into retirement.

But what are Baby Boomers looking for in a retirement circumstance? While most say they want to stay in their own neighborhoods, nearly 40 percent plan to move out of state in search of better weather and more amenities.

According to a survey by the National Association of Homebuilders, this new wave of retiring adults is more media savvy and independent than previous retirees. High-speed internet is a must, and services such as home maintenance and repair, and easy access to healthcare facilities were at the top of their list. But recreation and entertainment is just as important. Activities such as boating, hiking and cultural life were key elements in choosing the right place to retire.

Boomers want comfort, easy maintenance and a setting that will support their active lifestyle and love for adventure. Be sure to talk to your REALTOR® about retirement options to fit your needs.
