Tony Mantuano from the second season of Top Chef Masters will open Lorenzo in South Beach. This restaurant will find its home in The Redbury South Beach, which will be a 69-room boutique hotel located at 1776 Collins Avenue. It’s scheduled to open in the fall and will bring a new 4-star experience to the area.

The restaurant will open daily for lunch and dinner with a menu featuring handmade pastas, hearty entrees, wood-fired pizzettes, house-made gelato and a walk-up espresso bar. Mantuano plans to use the rooftop of the restaurant to grow herbs, basil and tomatoes, which will be used for cocktails, pizzas, mozzarella dishes and other entrees. This will add a fresh element to every dish making it just that much better than anything else found in the area.

Tony will bring in a Valoriani-designed Mugnaini oven from Tuscany for the pizzettes and to use for other dishes. Many of the entrees will come off the grill and the restaurant will also feature plenty of shareable bar plates on the regular and late night menus.

Cathy Mantuano, Tony’s wife and wine expert will take care of the wine list, which will feature plenty of great Italian wines. She plans to add a large section for sparkling wine and champagne. Michael Jack Pazdon will handle the specialty cocktails. He’s from Goose & Gander in Napa Valley.

The goal is to provide an elegant Italian restaurant in South Beach with a casual atmosphere. Mantuano is the chef and partner in Spiaggia, which is the only 4-star restaurant in Chicago and one of the finest Italian eateries in the Midwest. This new restaurant will be his first one outside of Chicago and he chose Miami because he believes it’s become a serious food city.

The location used to be home to Fairfax and was taken over by Sam Nazarian, Bob Heyat and Larry Levy. These three men know what they’re doing and believe this is one of the prime locations in the area. After a full renovation of the building, the hotel and restaurant will open with a new look, new name and plenty of new faces.
