Colleges in Miami

October 28, 2016

When most people think of Miami, beautiful beaches, Spanish culture, and year-round summer generally come to mind. But did you know that Miami is also one of the most well-read cities in the entire nation? Not only does Miami rank sixth among books purchased in the United States, but over 200,000 students attend college in and around the Magic City. Regardless of where you’re looking to purchase real estate in Miami, there’s almost sure to be a college nearby.

The best-known college in the Miami metropolitan area is the University of Miami, which is located just south of the city in the suburb of Coral Gables. UM is the oldest university in the southern part of the Sunshine State, having been established in 1925. Not only does it provide national attention through its athletic success in football, basketball, and baseball, but its academic reputation is one of the strongest in the nation, ranking in the top 50 among all colleges and universities. Real estate in Miami near the university tends to be very desirable given Coral Gables’ location near the city and its reputation as one of the most beautiful locales in the area. The town is known as the City Beautiful, and its Spanish-inspired architecture and active scene make it a very attractive place to live.

In the western part of the city sits Florida International University, which has gradually improved its reputation in recent years and become one of the top choices for Florida’s brightest students. As Miami’s major public university, FIU is an enormous school, welcoming in just over 54,000 students each year, which makes it the fourth-largest university in the United States. One notable fact about the school is that 92 percent of those students choose to live off-campus, making local real estate near the campus a very precious commodity. The campus’ location in University Park makes it ideal for access to both the vibrant city and the beauty of the Everglades. Other options among the 14 institutions of higher learning in Miami include Miami-Dade College, a community college with locations across the county, and Barry University, a small Catholic university in Miami Shores.

Regardless of where you choose to look for your permanent home, you’ll find easy access to furthering your education while being able to take advantage of all of the benefits of living in one of the most beautiful parts of the country. If you’re looking to further your educational opportunities and find the right place for you, a solution for real estate in Miami isn’t far away!
