Exploring Miami’s Culture

July 6, 2016

Miami is one of the most iconic cities in the United States. Backed by a rich Cuban culture, it’s a colorful and lively place to live and visit. Whether you are interested in Miami real estate or simply spending the weekend, it’s important to do Miami right while you’re in town. While there are plenty of beaches, museums, and shops to experience in South Florida, nothing can compare to Little Havana.

A Little Slice of Cuban Heaven

Since the 1950s, Cubans have been migrating to Miami. They brought their vibrant culture, forever changing the scene in South Beach. Little Havana is full of restaurants, murals, exhibits, and statues paying homage to the beautiful country of origin. While this Cuban district might only cover several blocks, you’ll find plenty to see and do.

What to Eat

When visiting Little Havana, be sure to stop at La Ventanita. This small shop serves delicious Cuban coffee topped with sweetened condensed milk. With empanadas, guava pastries, and sugarcane juice also on the menu, you may spend hours sampling the local cuisine. Be sure to save some room for El Pub. This small diner serves up special Cuban chorizo hamburgers, lamb stew, and bacalao, which is a flavorful codfish dish. Finish your meal off with ice cream from the Azucar Ice Cream Company. The Mantecado is a fan favorite. It’s a vanilla ice cream with a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon.

What to Do

While you could spend hours wandering the streets of Little Havana and soak in the sights, smells, and sounds, there are a few things that you should be sure to do. Calle Ocho is perhaps the most popular tourist attraction as it has plenty of shops and exhibits to explore. One of these is the Cuba Tobacco Cigar Company. Owned by the Bello family, it’s a must see for anyone who enjoys smoking a cigar every now and again. Lily Records is another popular shop. Here you can sample some of the finest Latin music with the help of their knowledgeable staff. There are also plenty of organized tours available to cart you around and ensure that you see all of the finest sights that Little Havana has to offer.
No matter how long you explore the streets of the Cuban district, you are sure to gain a new appreciation for this colorful culture. Whether you come for the Miami real estate or for the beaches, there’s no doubt that you will stay because of the vibrant diversity that surrounds the South Beach scene.
