So you’re now the proud owner of your dream home – congratulations! Now it’s time for the fun part, making it your own! When you start to design your living space, there are a few things to take into account before you get started. First, consider your lifestyle, and decide if there are any new fixtures or additions you want to incorporate into the rooms, to make the most of your new home’s functionality. If you love to cook, why not add in a kitchen island, or if your second home is your office, make sure the home office has got the most modern wiring and connectivity. If you love the great outdoors, think about installing an infinity window in one of the home’s common rooms, it’s a simple way to bring the beauty of the great outdoors inside!
Once you’ve taken function into account in your home’s design, décor is your next consideration, and this is where things really get fun! Consider making a unique piece of art or furniture the focal point of your room’s design, commanding the attention of the room. To highlight the interior contents of each room, choose rich but neutral colors for your walls. To bring out the best and brightest in furniture, art and home accessories, warm, muted browns, rich tans, or shades of ecru, eggshell and taupe are the ideal colors to accentuate unique home design. For rooms without a central piece as the focal point, designate one wall of each room to be your “accent wall” in a color just a bit brighter than the rest.
