Home Design Trends for 2010

February 11, 2010

As we are slowly recovering from the recession that was 2009, but still continue to experience the scourge that is global warming, here are the home design trends that will continue or emerge in 2010:

Going green

As the state of the environment is at the top of people’s consciousness, it is reflected in the way we are going to design and decorate our homes. More products have come out that are made from organic materials, recycled goods, sustainable woods, and those manufactured with less environmental impact. Being green will also be more glamorous and luxurious.

Cozy retreat

To save money, more people are staying in instead of going out. Thus, special attention is made for homes to become cozier. Rugs that are layered, plush, or made from faux fur transforms any living space into a restful space that one will feel the moment he or she enters the room.

Playful minimalist

While people would want to spend less and opt to have minimal décor, personal style shouldn’t be compromised. Thus, emphasis will be on colors, shapes, and patterns of the home decors.

The world citizen look

As we are becoming more connected with the ease of travel and communication of today’s modern world, we become more exposed to other culture. Thus, how we decorate our homes will be inspired by a mix of cultural influences with furniture and home furnishings from other countries such as the Middle East, Latin America, and India.
