How the Wealthy Maintain Privacy on Vacation

April 11, 2012

The rich and famous have to go to great lengths to protect their privacy.  The paparazzi often try to photograph their every move, and this is something most people of means want to avoid at any cost.  Security is also a concern because of the kidnappings for ransoms that are rampant in some parts of the world.  When one has money, it’s necessary to be discreet and careful. So how do the wealthy obtain some measure of privacy and security?

Some, like Donald Trump, own get-a-ways in areas that they enjoy visiting on a regular basis.  One of Trump’s vacation properties is the “Six-Star Diamond Award” private club named Mar-a-Lago.  It’s located in Palm Beach, Florida.  Trump acquired this magnificent property in 1985 and made it into a private club in 1996. The club was carefully crafted to provide the finest of amenities to its members.  It includes magnificent beachfront property, an Olympic size swimming pool, and magnificently furnished interior rooms.  Trump retained living quarters for himself and his family at the club.  He refers to it as a “home away from home.”

Ralph Lauren owns at least five vacation homes.  One is a fifteen thousand acre ranch in Colorado.  Lauren has been known to don his western gear and help work this ranch when he vacations there.  For a non-working vacation, he often chooses his private villa in Jamaica. It overlooks the sparkling blue water and has its own beach for added privacy.  And if he tires of these two venues, he has three more to choose from!  This also provides added security – those with nefarious intent never know where to find him!

Like Ralph Lauren, the current mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, also own several vacation homes.  A billionaire in his own right, Bloomberg can afford to vacation in style.  An enthusiastic skier, Bloomberg owns a top-flight chalet in ritzy Vail, Colorado.  If he desires a warmer climate for some sunshine and golf, he has a stunning home in the wealthy enclave of Tucker’s Town, Bermuda.  It is situated so that it overlooks the magnificent Castle Harbor.  An avid golfer, Bloomberg belongs to the ultra-exclusive Game Creek Golf Club. The initiation fee is $50,000, and he often plays a round of gold with other wealthy residents such as Ross Perot.  If Bloomberg desires to partake of all Europe has to offer, he can retreat to his ten million dollar penthouse in London.  It’s obvious that the super rich can indulge in a lifestyle that is far, far above average.  They have the money to make their every dream a reality.
