Improve Your Home’s Value Through Inexpensive Kitchen Upgrades

December 29, 2016

As the heart of the house, the kitchen is one of the most important rooms to homebuyers. Upgrading any area of the home may help to increase the value, but the kitchen should always be first on the upgrade list.

While you could gut the entire kitchen and build it new from scratch, this isn’t necessary to add value to your home. With a few simple kitchen upgrades, you will provide a more attractive home for buyers.

Replace Fixtures

If the faucets or light fixtures are outdated, replace them. This is one of the easiest ways you can make a few hundred dollars go a very long way in your kitchen.

Install a Water Filtration System

While it may not add much to the aesthetics of the room, a water filtration system is a big selling point. It will eliminate the need for bottled water, which helps to reduce grocery bills. It’s also a small luxury homebuyers will appreciate.

Add or Replace the Backsplash

You don’t have to be skilled with tile to add a beautiful backsplash to your kitchen. You can get one made of a single sheet of solid material to add value to your kitchen. Just a little trimming, shaping and gluing and you’ll have a new, modern-looking kitchen.

Refinish the Cabinets

Sometimes, old, drab cabinets hold back the rest of your kitchen. A makeover with brighter colors might be just what you need. As long as the doors and frames are in good shape, you don’t need to replace the cabinets to get a new look.

Instead, you can simply clean them and add a new coat of paint. You can even get a kit specifically designed for cabinets with full instructions on how to complete the job. For less than a few hundred dollars, you can make your cabinets look new again.

Replace Old Appliances

An old microwave, stove or dishwasher may be holding your kitchen back. While replacing everything might be a bit costly, it will pay off in the long run. However, you might not need to replace every item. If you already have a newer stove, you may just need to replace the dishwasher or microwave to match.

You may not even need to replace the dishwasher at all. If it works great and it’s just not the right color, try flipping the panel around. Dishwasher panels are often a different color on the other side, which might just match your other appliances.
