iPad 2 Coming Soon?

February 23, 2011

The Wall Street Journal reports today that in an invitation-only event, scheduled for March 2, 2011, Apple Inc. is expected to introduce a new version of the iPad. Many have been speculating about what new features this model will offer. We cannot predict what those features will be but the general belief is that they might include: a thiner body, improved screen and resolution, and a front facing camera, which would allow the use of Facetime on the iPad.

Many speculations have been made about the release date of the iPad 2. Some more recent ones even stated that it might not get released until later this summer. Regardless of the release date some believe that Apple would like to present the new iPad now in order to make sure people know what is planned for this new version before they go and buy other tablets that are being released these days such as the Motorola  Xoom, which is scheduled to go on sale in the US tomorrow.

As 2011 is expected to be the ‘Tablet Year’ many believe that Apple Inc. will invest a lot of efforts in trying to maintain its dominance over the tablet market. It is hard to believe that Apple will be able to retain their current 95% tablet market share, but it is expected that the people at Apple will do everything at their powers to make sure that this number will not drop by much. So is the March 2nd event part of this effort? As with any other Apple announcements we will simply have to wait and see.
