iPhone 5 and iPad Mini anoucements on September 12?
July 30, 2012Several technology portals today report that Apple Inc. is planing a special event for September 12 in which they intend to introduce and announce the release dates for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini. imore.com tells us that based on a source that proved reliable in the past the iPhone 5 will be released 9 days after the special event which will make it available for sale on September 21, 2012.
gizmodo.com also reports today the same announcement and release dates for the new iPhone. They also add that the next iPhone will not be called the iPhone 5 but like the most recent iPad release it will be simply calle the “New iPhone”. It appears that this would make sense as the numbering system for the iPhone is starting to lose it’s sense as the 5th iPhone is the iPhone 4S. So it won’t make much sense to call the sixth iPhone, iPhone 5.
As we told you in one of our recent Tech Thursday posts, the potential release of an iPad mini would hold more significance than just making sure to dominate the tablet market by offering a more affordable Apple tablet. This could be one of the first moves in the post Steve Jobs era that Apple would do which would contradict the position Jobs held when he was at the driving seat in Apple. His position that he expressed in several ocasions was that the screen size of the iPad was ideal and there was no reason or intention by Apple to ever reduce it. So if today’s reports are correct it looks like we would have to wait a little over a month to find out if the iPad mini rumors are indeed correct.
