Miami Is The Cultural Heart of The South
February 8, 2013Unfortunately when you mention the city of Miami to most people they instantly associate it with a cheesy TV cop show from the 80s and then maybe think about the beaches of Miami but that’s where they stop. What you’ll never find people asking about at any stage is the level of cultural diversity in Miami and what the local arts scene is like. Finding out what Miami is, quite literally, the cultural hub of the southern United States comes as a pretty big shock to the vast majority of people.
One of the biggest events on the Miami cultural calendar each year is The Miami Book Fair which takes place between November 17th and 24th in 2013. You will get to listen to and even meet some of the brightest literary talents in the world including people like David Eggers, Salman Rushdie and Patti Smith for example – we could spend hours listing dozens of different literary stars just here alone.
Then just a few weeks after the Miami International Book Fair you’ll have the Miami Beach Art Basel to look forward to – this takes place from December 5th right through to December 8th in 2013. Basically if you enjoy any form of art, including painting, sculpture, drawing, installation pieces, photography and film, then you will absolutely love the range of leading international artistic talent which graces the Miami Art Basel each year. More than 50,000 people come each year to see the work presented by over 250 of the leading art galleries from all over the world.
Now we’ve just provided you with a very small selection of events and on closer inspection you’ll see that the Miami cultural calendar is literally packed full of events for you and your family to enjoy right throughout the year. There’s always something to do in Miami and some other major events, which take place each year, include the Borscht Film Festival and a poetry festival too.
Whatever your cultural tastes might be you can be certain Miami has plenty to offer you.
