Raising Your Home’s IQ

April 8, 2011

“Smart” home technology is no longer just a hobby for technophiles, these days home automation has gone mainstream, and a good way to increase your home’s value is to incorporate some digital upgrades.

The most popular digital improvements are all about safety and energy efficiency. A smart home monitors all your security systems and will alert you if there is anything out of the ordinary. If a fire is detected, it will wake you up, dial 911, unlock the doors and light a path to safety. You can also check up on your home’s security from anywhere on your cell phone or laptop.

Smart homes can also save up to 20 percent on your utilities. Electric bills go down when lights are automatically turned off, rooms can be temperature controlled based on who’s there at any given moment, and electronic equipment can be shut off when not use.

While it is possible to have your home do just about any function imaginable, the real value of home automation is about making your home safe for you and your family and saving money on utility bills.
