The 84th Annual Academy Awards Ceremony
March 21, 2012Many people tuned into the 2012 Academy Awards Ceremony to see who would win Hollywood’s most prestigious awards. Just as many people, however, watched the Oscar ceremony to view the latest in fashion and accessories. This latter group was certainly not disappointed, as those who walked the red carpet personified Hollywood glamour.
White and pastels seemed to be especially popular this awards season. Gwyneth Paltrow, who always turns heads, was resplendent in a Tom Ford off-white gown. What added interest to her frock was the floor-length cape that could be removed for the parties that took place after the awards ceremony. Paltrow’s look was “understated elegance” – even her hair was tied back with a plain rubber band and she wore little jewelry.
Meryl Streep, who won the award for Best Actress (for “Iron Maiden”) was stately in a shimmering, gold gown by Lanvin. The gown had long sleeves, which Meryl seems to favor when she walks the red carpet.  Dangling gold earrings completed the look. Many consider Streep to be the greatest living American actress, and she looked every inch the “Grande Dame” of Hollywood when she accepted her award in her beautiful, flowing gown.
Angelina Jolie created quite a stir in a black dress by Atelier Versace. This stunning gown was especially memorable because it had a thigh-high slit on each side. When she was presenting an award, Jolie struck a pose with her right leg fully exposed through one of the slits. It’s been dubbed “legbombing,” and pictures of her right leg have since gone viral in the media and on the Internet.
The award for the most “bling” would have to go to Cameron Diaz. She wore a pale, strapless Gucci, which provided the perfect backdrop for all the diamonds that adorned her. The price tag for all these diamonds was a staggering $1,000,000! Not to worry, however. The jewels didn’t cost Cameron a dime. They were loaners from Tiffany and Company and came with a security guard to protect them. They were returned at the end of the evening.
