The Garage – Not Just for Cars!
July 15, 2013If you’re intent on dazzling your prospective buyers, look no further than a garage make-over! The modern garage has the potential for much more than simply parking your car. In fact, many families never even use the garage for parking, and in such cases, the garage often becomes a catch-all area, full of clutter and dust that no one really enjoys spending their time in. With a little work, some creativity and a weekend’s worth of effort, you can re-design your garage into a beautiful room of its own, adding another room to your home’s layout that’s as pleasant and enjoyable as any of the home’s other rooms.
First, you’ll need to get as much as possible off the floor. To this end, consider adding ceiling racks, closed cabinets and shelving. That way, gardening equipment, tools and sport gear (like tennis rackets, skateboards, rollerblades, bikes or golf clubs) are safely stored and out of sight. Once you’ve cleared the floors, re-finish them. Simple concrete floors can be stained and sealed at a minimal cost, turning dull gray into a delicate patina finish that coordinates with the room that opens to the garage. Laminate flooring, snap-in wood panels, tile and granite flooring are other options to consider, each of which are available to suit a variety of budgets and each of which come in a spectrum of colors and textures to accent the greater design of your home. With everything looking tidy and decorated attractively, your garage won’t be just another room that you scuttle buyers through on their tour of the property—it’ll be a room they remember, one that stands out and demands their attention!
