Top Public High Schools Found Throughout Miami

Miami Public High SchoolsEvery year, U.S. News and World Report ranks the top public high schools across the country and in local areas. Miami-Dade county provides some great schools with top choices for students all throughout the area.

The Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) was ranked as the top high school in Miami-Dade County. It was also ranked 22nd nationally for magnet schools and second in Florida.

Many smaller schools were eliminated from the rankings because they may only serve college bound students and not all students. The top three schools in the entire country are all found in Arizona. Here’s a look at the top public high schools found throughout the Miami area.

Design and Architecture Senior High

As already mentioned, DASH is the best public high school in Miami. It’s an excellent magnet school founded in1900 and ranking 22nd across the nation. The school serves about 500 students with a 17-to-1 student/teacher ratio. It’s located at 4001 NE 2nd Avenue and provides a top choice for students in the area.

International Studies Charter High School

Grabbing the third ranking in the State of Florida, the International Studies Charger high School (ISCHS) is found on Calle Ocho. The school serves about 400 students from all across the globe. It’s known as one of the top charter schools in the United States.

International Studies Preparatory Academy

Another highly rated school, the International Studies Preparatory Academy came in fourth in the State of Florida. It’s also ranked 31st in the United States. The student-to-teacher ratio at ISPA is 17-to-1 and it ranks as the 8th best magnet high school in the country. The school is found in Coral Gables at 1570 Madruga Avenue.

Young Women’s Preparatory Academy

An all women school ranking 52nd in the nation and 8th in Florida, the Young Women’s Preparatory Academy provides a focus on technology, math and science. The school is known for molding young women and helping to create the leaders of tomorrow. The school actually serves grades 6 to 12 and offers AP courts, along with a guided career pathway. It’s located at 1150 SW 1st Street in Miami.

Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School

Also known as AUC, the Archimedean Upper Conservatory Charter School was founded in 2008. The students attending this school are chosen by a lottery system. With a 10-to-1 student/teacher ratio, the class sizes at AUC are very small. The school was ranked 81st in the national and 11th in the State of Florida. It’s located at 12425 SW 72nd Street in Miami.

Jose Marti Mast Academy

Jose Marti Mast AcademyServing about 700 students, the Jose Marti Mast Academy ranked 88th in the country. It’s located in the Hialeah area and provides a great choice for area students from grades 6 to 12. It earned a national gold medal and the 12th ranking in the State of Florida. The school is found at 5701 West 24th Avenue.

Mast Academy

Located in the Key Biscayne area at 3979 Rickenbacker Causeway, the Mast Academy serves more than 900 area students. The school offers AP courts with a 19-to-1 student/teacher ratio. It came in at the 100th ranking spot in the nation and provides one of the top options in the Key Biscayne area for high school students.

iPreparatory Academy

Located at 1500 Biscayne Boulevard, this public school provides an education for about 200 high school students. It was ranked in the 102nd spot nationally. The school provides a 19-to-1 student/teacher ratio and it’s ranked 14th in the State of Florida.

Doral Performing Arts and Entertainment Academy

The final Miami-Dade County school found in the top 15 public schools in Florida, Doral Performing Arts and Entertainment Academy ranked 115th in the country. Class sizes at this school are rather large with a 54-to-1 student/teacher ratio. The school focusses largely on the performing arts and it’s found at 11100 NW 27th Street in Doral.

Coral Reef Senior High School

The last school on the list is the largest. Coral Reef Senior High School has about 3,200 students and it’s ranked 185th in the country. It’s a great school for area students and ranked as the 19th best high school in Florida. It’s located at 10101 SW 152nd Street in Miami.

When you’re deciding where to live and which high school your children will attend, take into account these top choices. Miami-Dade County is home to nine of the top 15 high schools in the stated and three found in the top four. Any of these schools will serve your children well and provide a great education.
