Victoria Beckham appointed New Creative Designer for Range Rover
September 28, 2010Wife of International Soccer star, David Beckham, Victoria is the new Creative Director for Range Rover. Land Rover and Range Rover design director Gerry McGovern said of his newest colleague: “She knows a lot about fashion and a lot about trends, a lot about luxury products.
“She has her own fashion business that’s been going for three years and has gained critical acclaim.” A smaller, sleeker model called the Range Rover Evoque was also unveiled at the celebrity party co-hosted by Vogue, which was attended by 300 guests including Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, model Erin O’Connor and presenter Gabby Logan. Beckham will work on a special edition of the Evoque, and called the vehicle “absolutely stunning”. She said she was looking forward to “everything” about the collaboration, and added: “I don’t know where to start. “It’s an incredible opportunity I’ve been given. I’m very excited.”
The Evoque will be on sale from next summer and is described as the “greenest” Range Rover yet. It will be built at the firm’s Halewood plant on Merseyside and will create around 1,000 jobs new jobs. Beckham told those gathered for the garden party: “I like to take on a challenge and I’m ready for it.” She added: “This is a very exciting collaboration.
“The classic British heritage of Range Rover and the effortless style, quality and beauty is something I truly admire and also what I hope to achieve with my own brand. “I am honoured to take on this role and be part of the creative team.”
Alexandra Shulman, the editor of Vogue, said she had been responsible for introducing the singer-turned fashion designer to the car company.
