Why Staged Homes Sell Better

July 18, 2011

Experienced REALTORS® know that a vacant house is more difficult to sell than a beautifully staged home. An empty house can seem stark and uninviting to prospective buyers, which can make them want to rush through a showing.

Minor flaws are normal in any house, but they tend to stand out in a vacant one and can signal to buyers that the house might have larger problems, hidden from view. Even if the listing is new, a vacant house can feel stale, which might induce more buyers to make low-ball offers that can negatively affect the property’s perceived value.

Professional staging brings a house to life. It creates a warm and inviting environment that encourages buyers to spend more time in the home and emotionally connect with it. It also helps them to imagine how the home will look when they live there.

Statistics show that staged homes sell about 17 percent faster and get a significantly higher selling price than unstaged homes; so the cost of staging is almost always covered by the increased profits at sales time. If you are preparing to sell your home, ask your REALTOR® about which local home stagers they recommend.
