Your Own Private Dock

May 24, 2011

We live in a boater’s paradise, where enthusiasts can enjoy some of the best yachting, sailing and deep sea fishing in the world. It is also one of the few places where boat lovers can own homes with private docking facilities right on their property. What could be better than waking up to a beautiful day and having your boat waiting for you just a few steps outside your door?

Building a private dock on Florida’s waterways does come with certain restrictions. To protect the natural habitat and water quality, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) regulates the construction of docks and use of waterways. So if you are planning to build a private dock, you will most likely need to get a permit from the DEP. Some docks, because of their size, location, and minimal environmental impact, are exempt from requiring a permit. Just check with your local DEP office to see if you need a permit.

If you dream of having your own piece of boating heaven, you can choose from a range of beautiful waterfront properties available in this area. Be sure to contact a REALTOR® who specializes in boat friendly properties.
