Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Equation of Time Men’s Luxury WatchMay 25, 2012
A true time keeping masterpiece, the limited edition Zenith Academy Christophe Colomb Equation of Time men’s watch is definitely one worth breaking open your piggy bank for, that is if your piggy bank has $200,000 in it. This breathtaking watch is quite large, with a rose gold case coming in at 45 mm in diameter. The large size allows for a spacious watch face, complete with power reserve and Equation of Time dials, which is the same concept put to use in a sundial – it shows the difference between true planetary-solar time and our time that we use everyday, ranging from +16 to -16 minutes. The Equation of Time aspect is extremely complex; to give you an idea, it was originally restricted to enormous grandfather clocks which were the only timepieces big enough to contain the necessary mechanics.
Even if you’re not a watch mechanic, you can still appreciate the beauty of this Zenith timepiece thanks to the magnified viewing lines that sits in the bottom of the watch face underneath the main dial. This allows you a striking view of the contrasting dials, jewels, gears, springs and screws that make up the inner workings of the watch, all colored for added vibrancy. The watch is, of course, fully automatic which means that you need to wear it every day to maintain its power and wind it occasionally. The watch face is protected by sapphire crystal and the strap is made from brown or black alligator leather. All in all, truly a luxurious men’s watch in line with what you’d expect from Zenith.
