Reflections On Sea, Sky And Stone

February 4, 2011

Many of today’s luxury swimming pools are a lot more than just a nice spot for a swim. People get as much pleasure from looking at water as they do from swimming in it. That’s why today’s designers are creating pools that are more like unique works of art that seamlessly blend the architecture of the home with the surrounding environment.

Innovative architects employ several tricks to make the most of water’s almost mystical qualities to create stunning effects. Lining the pool with dark tiles transforms the pool into a flawless mirror that perfectly reflects sky and nature. Architects can create the illusion of a surface that is continuous with the sea beyond by keeping the lines of sight low to the ground and using a vanishing perimeter. Glass walls, lounging islands, colored glass tiles, underwater caves and floating fireplaces are different elements that the best architects are using to create a magical watery experience.

Our fascination with water is primal. Top designers are using our love of water to create breathtaking spaces that attract and draw our attention into a space that’s beyond this world.
