The Beer for the Beer SnobJune 20, 2013
The craft brewing industry has completely exploded over the past decade and beer lovers now have more choices than just the cheap swill larger companies try to pass off as quality beer. European brewers have been laughing at the American beer scene for years because only a few high-quality brews had surfaced. Many of the best beers still come from Europe, but the craft market in the United States now provides a massive amount of craft brews worth the higher price tag.
Top Craft Breweries in America
1. Brewery Ommegang
This brewery is found in Cooperstown, New York and provides some of the finest Abbey and Trappist-style ales on the craft market. From the Duvel Rustica to the Ommegang XV Anniversary Ale, Brewery Ommegang provides something for the most sophisticated palette. Many of their brews come with a higher than average alcohol content and retail for between $12 and $20 for a 750ml bottle.
2. Goose Island
A brewpub found in the great city of Chicago, this brewer is most well known for the 312 urban wheat ale, which is a great alternative for the Blue Moon drinker. However, Goose Island isn’t a one trick pony. Other top choices from this brewer include the bourbon county stout, sofie and pepe nero.
3. The Bruery
Found in Orange County, California, the Bruery provides some of the finest beers in the country. However, beer from this brewer is only available in 21 states. Beers featured from The Bruery include Mischief, Autumn Maple and Saison De Lente. Some of these beers are only available to members of the Bruery’s Reserve Society.
These are only three of the many craft breweries found throughout the United States with beers capable of standing against the top brews from Europe. Many other breweries provide excellent beer on a local level in top cities across the country.
