Waterfront or Seaside – What’s the Difference?July 14, 2016
Choosing between the general waterfront home or a seaside home may not be the easiest decision. These are two very different things, yet very similar. For starters, a seaside home cannot be found on a lake, canal or any other waterway, other than the ocean, while a waterfront home is simply on any type of water.
Fitting the Home to Your Lifestyle
Waterfront and seaside homes can provide different styles of living. Many buyers will choose a waterfront home on a canal, lake or waterway because they plan to enjoy boating, fishing and other water activities. This isn’t the case with a seaside house. Often, you won’t be able to launch your boat into the ocean or keep it docked in front of your home with a seaside home.
Those choosing a seaside home often love the beach and want to access it anytime they choose, or they may choose this type of home for the amazing daytime views, yet, get surprised to discover the night yields no views at all.
Docking a Boat
As previously mentioned, a seaside home doesn’t really provide the ability to dock your boat. If you choose this type of home and you love boating, you will usually need to keep your boat docked or stored at a nearby boat club.
With a waterfront home, your boat may be docked immediately outside your home and you can use the canal or waterway to access the ocean or a larger waterway. If the waterfront home is on a lake, usually you will have a dock for your boat right outside your home, as well.
Another difference may be found in the home’s insurance policy. With a seaside home, you may have to carry special insurance or a higher level of insurance coverage for your home. The right type of storm may cause increased damage compared to a waterfront home on a lake, canal or other type of waterway.
Whether you choose a waterfront or a seaside home, you want to know exactly what you’re buying. Always find a waterfront home specialist in the area you plan to buy. This will help ensure you get the best deal possible on a home specific for your needs.
