Why Live in Coral Gables, Florida

April 21, 2017

Coral GablesIncorporated in 1925 Coral Gables is one of Miami’s first planned communities, and with its historic landmarks, Mediterranean-style architecture, and canopy tree-lined streets it represents its nickname “The City Beautiful” well.

Coral Gables is a pedestrian-friendly community that is located just four miles from Miami International Airport and is home to the University of Miami. There are many parks, two public golf courses, recreational facilities, and waterways.

Here are some more reasons living in Coral Gables is so remarkable.

Identity Never Changes

Most of the other areas of Miami change their identity more than you change clothes, but not Coral Gables. Coming up on its 90th birthday in just a few years, Coral Gables is still precisely what it initially planned to be.

Advantages of having a major college, with few disadvantages

The founders of Coral Gables were the first to imagine plans for the University of Miami, and the city gets to relish the advantage of having a University in the Top 50 with few of the disadvantages.

While the students at the University of Miami may love to party, it’s not a party campus. Typically, the students will head over to the Grove or the Beach to party. This works out nicely for everyone.

Venetian Pool

Driver, Biker, and Pedestrian Friendly

There are a few major roads that go through Gables, but the traffic is quiet for the most part. This makes for less stress on drivers and plenty of room for pedestrians and bikers to roam.

Banyan Trees

Who doesn’t love banyan trees? If you live in Coral Gables you will see big and beautiful banyan trees alongside nearly every street.

Books & Books and the Miracle Theatre

The main business district for the city may be small, but is still quite traditional. There you have Books & Books which is without a question Miami’s best bookstore, where it is not uncommon for touring authors to stop there; the Miracle Theatre’s Actors’ Playhouse; and Coral Gables Art Cinema.

Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

While there are plenty of parks and green space in Coral Gables Fairchild is an indisputable gem. Fairchild has almost every plant one would care to see in South Florida.

Restaurants

Coral Gables has quickly caught up with other parts of the country when it comes to culinary regeneration. There are places to satisfy any diner with the old favorites such as Palme D’Or and Oranique and thrilling new restaurants like Eating House and Swine Southern Table & Bar.

Youth-Friendly Downtown

This simply is not true, just north of Miracle Mile you will find tons of newer buildings and charming apartments with rents that are similar to other hot spots in the country.
