The city of Aventura is located in Miami-Dade County in the metro area of Miami-Fort Lauderdale and according to 2005 Census estimates, is home to 29,391 residents. Aventura was incorporated on November 7, 1995. It was named Aventura after the first group of condominium developments in the area and comes from the Spanish word adventure.
Aventura holds several of the most prestigious condominium towers of Miami. It is also home to one of South Florida's premier malls, Aventura Mall. Located in the middle of the city at 2.3 million square feet, Aventura Mall is one of South Florida's top malls featuring, major department stores and over 250 specialty stores and dining options. Aside from Aventura Mall, Aventura is also home to a smaller outdoor mall called the Shops at Waterways.
