7 Weird Houses Found Across the Globe

April 11, 2016

Not all houses are simple ranch, bungalow or craftsman style. Some houses are custom-built with a very ornate style and others are simply odd. If you enjoy strange, unique and possibly brilliant homes, you will love our list of the 7 weirdest houses found across the globe.

Spaceship House

Found in Signal Mountain, TN, this house looks like a very large spaceship. It’s found atop the mountainside and you may think it’s a real spaceship, at first. It was designed to look like a spacecraft, but it cannot fly. Even the inside is decorated to match the theme.

The Upside Down House

The Upside Down House

While you may have visited attractions designed to look like upside down homes, this home found in Niagara Falls, ON, Canada is not an attraction. The home is found near the bottom of the falls and it does provide daily tours. The house is found across from the Ripley’s Believe it or Not, which probably isn’t a coincidence.

The Heliodome

Found in Alsace, France, The Heliodome is quite unique. Of course, it comes as very little surprise since architecture in France is already rather unique. However, this house is a bit more “out there” than normal. It’s shaped like a Heliodome and designed to interact with the sun on every side of the house. The sun provides heat during the cool months and the house provides shade during the hotter months.

The Kettle House

The Kettle House

Found in Galveston, Texas, this house looks like a kettle. The house is made with a wood-shingled roof and steel dome. It has been sitting in the same place for more than 50 years and has withstood severe weather.

Mushroom House

The Mushroom House found in Cincinnati, Ohio was designed by Terry Brown and his 35 architecture students. It uses many different items to make the giant mushroom shape. It only has one bedroom and it took an entire 14 years to complete the project. Even though Professor Brown died in 2008, the home still exists for visitors to enjoy.

Haines Shoe House

It’s not just a kid’s story anymore. The Haines Shoe House found in Hellam, PA provides a real-life example of the, “There was an old woman who lived in a shoe,” nursery rhyme. The house was created in 1948, but not by a woman. It was created by a man and he became known as “the Shoe Wizard.” Colonel Mahlon Nathaniel Haines created the 25-foot tall hoe for advertising his shoe stores. He actually had multiple homes created and originally, it was a hotel.

Gold Pyramid House

Gold Pyramid House

Found in Wadsworth, Illinois, this home includes two buildings. One building looks like a giant pyramid, while the other looks like a cluster of three pyramids. It’s a 17,000 square foot building and was built in 1977. The home even has a moat around it and occasionally, the owners will give tours.

There are several very strange homes found around the world. These are just a few of the most unique choices.
