How can you Get Involved for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in South Florida?
October 12, 2015Every October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there are many ways you can get involved. NFL football players put on a little touch of pink in support, many others wear pink at events and at work and many other things happen to show support and spread awareness. Here are just a few of the ways you can get involved this year in South Florida.
Komen Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Race for the Cure
On Saturday, October 17th, you can join the Komen Race for the Cure and help by providing donations as they raise funds for education and research. This is a great cause and the event gives 75% of the profits to the local community for screening, treating and education about breast cancer.
Get a Specialty License Plate
If this is your month to renew your license plate, or even if it’s not, you can help by purchasing an “End Breast Cancer” specialty license plate. The plate is $30 with $25 of that $30 going directly to educational programs and research to help fight breast cancer.
Pickup for Breast Cancer
Another way you can pitch in this month is by dropping off any items you want to donate to the thrift stores that help support breast cancer awareness. There will be pick-ups you can arrange or you can drop off the items throughout the Tri-County area at drop off locations. Find out more at, www.pickupsforbreastcancer.org.
Making Strides of Broward
On Saturday, October 31st, you can join the Making Strides of Broward walks with a 5K or a full 5-mile walk. This even will help to spread awareness and raise money to support the fight. Last year, this event was able to raise more than $40K.
There are several ways you can help spread awareness and support the fight against breast cancer during October. These are just a few of the opportunities in South Florida.
