March 14, 2012Handbags, like shoes, have emerged as the newest status symbols. Pick up any movie magazine, and there will be pictures of female stars carrying the trendiest of  bags. For the cost of some of these handbags,  it would be possible to purchase a new car. But for those who can afford to pay big dollars for what they like, it’s all about the handbags!
When buying an expensive purse, a brand name is very important. But the price of the purse is also affected by the quality of the materials with which the bag is constructed. Handbags made with python, ostrich and crocodile tend to be more expensive. Better hardware also drives up the price. And of course, if only a limited number of a particular handbag is offered for sale, the price tag rises accordingly.
Louis Vuitton was the first designer to make an ordinary handbag more than just a fashion accessory. His handbags made a fashion statement. Demand for his ultra expensive purses was so great that many other designers jumped on the bandwagon. Many designer bags now sell for astronomical prices.
One bag that is in great demand among the jet set is the Fendi “B Bag.” It comes in white lambskin or black crocodile and costs $27,700. Also popular is the Hermes “Birkin.” The price of this bag depends on the material from which it is made, but the base price is $20,000. Celebrities like Kate Moss and Jessica Simpson have been spotted carrying an Yves Saint Laurent “Muse.” It looks rather like a modified bowling bag. It is roomy and stylish and sells for a “reasonable” $18,900.
Other famous designer houses like Prada and Bottega also offer fashionable handbags at exorbitant prices. But for those who can afford to buy what they like no matter what the price, expensive handbags never go out of style!
