It’s Showtime! Selling a Luxury Home
October 7, 2013Once you’ve done all of the basics of putting your house up for sale—you’ve listed your house, there’s a sign in the yard, your home is listed in MLS and on your agent’s website, and your Realtor® has set up showings and an open house for prospective buyers—that’s when the real work of selling your home comes into play! As a seller, it’s up to you to keep the house in tip-top condition until an offer is made, a contract is signed, and your home is off the market. The condition of your home doesn’t apply only to the functionality of the appliances and the upkeep on its exterior, though those factors play an equally important part in successfully selling your home. Remember, when your home is on the market—it’s showtime!
Keep your home neat and clean—don’t let clutter build up, remove all superfluous furnishings and decorations—make sure the furniture and surfaces are clean, dusted, and smudge-free. Maintain clean, open, neutral spaces, and make sure that your home looks and smells fresh and inviting. If your household has pets or children living in it, these details may be difficult to maintain day-to- day, but pay off big at the closing table. Keep in mind, if a prospective buyer walks in and sees dusty vents, they could very well think “This home hasn’t been aired out recently.” A drippy little faucet with a bathtub ring might not bother you, but a buyer could think “That could mean future plumbing problems.” Make sure that your home is the star, not a supporting player in the feature, Sell My Home!
