Know Thy Neighbor (But Not Too Well!)
February 23, 2012
Ask!
Introduce yourself to your prospective neighbors—find out if they enjoy the neighborhood, what potential problems you might encounter, if there’s any advice they’d like to impart to future residents, and if the community has any issues that you should be aware of prior to purchasing a property. Residents may have information that even the most skilled REALTOR® might not be privy to, as they reside in the community day in and day out.
Privacy, Please!
You want to know your neighbors—but not too well! The amount of water frontage of your property directly affects your privacy, so be mindful! Properties offering 50 feet of water frontage or less afford minimal privacy. 100 feet of frontage provides a greater amount of privacy, but for the maximum amount of privacy, look for properties with 150-200 feet or more of water frontage. Remember that vision works both ways—if you can see the water, whoever is on the water can see you, too!
