The World’s Most Downloaded Mobile App

November 12, 2010

More than 100 million people around the globe have downloaded Facebook mobile via cross-platform mobile store GetJar, making it the world’s most downloaded app on a single apps store.

“With more than 500 million Facebook users around the world, people are increasingly looking to stay connected using their cell phones. said Patrick Mork, chief marketing officer for GetJar in a November 22 press release.

More than 50 percent of Facebook downloads on GetJar came from consumers with Nokia-branded devices, however, GetJar says Android has quickly become the fastest growing platform on the store.

GetJar, the world’s largest open application store, provides more than 75,000 application downloads to consumers using iOS, Android, Nokia, BlackBerry, Sony Ericsson, LG and Palm devices.

Application recommendation sites and third-party application distributors such as GetJar, Appoke (still in beta), Applolicious, Apptism, Appitalism and Chomp are becoming increasingly popular with consumers as platform and carrier application stores become cluttered with thousands of apps.
