Top 13 Places to Visit with Kids in Miami

Whether you plan to come to Miami on a vacation or you want to check it out to move here, it’s important to know what to do with kids. Miami is full of great attractions and things to do as a family, regardless of the age of your children. Here’s a look at the top 13 places to take your children in Miami.

Bayfront Park

One of the top parks in Miami, this one is found in the downtown area. It’s a great place for kids because of the creature-theme playground. Children often love this playground, while parents enjoy the views of Biscayne Bay and Port of Miami. This is a great place for picnicking, as well.

History Miami

history-miamiA great museum for the entire family, History Miami provides a look at the history of South Florida. They often hold family fun days with crafts, storytelling and music. Usually these are on the second Saturday of each month.

Older kids will enjoy the historical tours, which includes cruises, walks and even a moon cruise on the river. There’s something for all ages here.

Little Havana

If you have older kids, take them to the Little Havana area for a taste of the Latin scene. This area has some great restaurants, holds many great events and provides a look at the culture of Miami. There are also some cool murals found outside the Cafeteria Guardabarrenco.

Miami Children’s Museum

If the day gets too hot or it starts raining, you can enjoy the air conditioning or dry environment found at the Miami Children’s Museum. Plenty of hands-on exhibits are found here including the supermarket, kid-sized TV studio and the play cruise ship.

The Wynwood Walls

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

A look at a bit of history is found at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. It’s found on the water and it’s an Italian Renaissance-style villa with 10 acres of land. The gardens are beautiful and so are the buildings.

You can take a quick tour of the house and the gardens, which are a bit like a maze. However, it’s not the easiest attraction for those with strollers.

Monkey Jungle

A five-acre wildlife park with plenty of monkeys, Monkey Jungle is great for all ages. You can even feed the monkeys in a few areas or take the Rainforest Adventure Tour, which allows for close encounters.

Zoo Miami

Another great attraction with animals is Zoo Miami. This is the largest tropical zoo in the country with 2,000 animals. You can enjoy feeding the giraffe or even riding camels here. Some of the zoo is even cage-free and you can ride around on moats to enjoy the animals in their natural habitat.

Sawgrass Recreation Park

If you want to see the Everglades, the Sawgrass Recreation Park is a good choice. With general admission, you get a 30-minute airboat tour and access to three exhibit areas. They have a 1,000-pount alligator, iguanas, turtles and so much more here.

Oleta River State Park

oleta-river-state-parkThis park provides plenty of recreation to enjoy with bikes for rent at the Blue Moon Outdoor Center. You can enjoy 15 miles of trails here or you can enjoy other rentals, such as kayaks and canoes. The park also includes sandy beaches and calm waters for all ages to enjoy.

Jungle Island

Found between South Beach and downtown Miami, Jungle Island is a zoological park covering 18 acres of space. It includes plenty of unique vegetation and exotic animals. There’s a Lion-Tiger hybrid called a Liger and plenty to do here.

Crandon Park

Known as one of the best parks for kids, this beautiful park includes picnic areas, a two-mile beach with lifeguards, a seahorse fountain, paved roller rink, vintage carousel and plenty more. The views are great and you can even enjoy the gardens and arboretum while you’re here.

Biscayne Nature Center

A feature of Crandon Park you won’t want to miss, the Biscayne Nature Center provides families with plenty of adventure. You can learn about tidal pools, coastal ecology or even catch sea urchins.
